KUNDUN (part 2)

Broadcast date: Tuesday 30-12-2003 22:35 - 00:42 ned. 1

The Dalai Lama must deal with the surging strength of communist China, which plans to incorporate Tibet into the republic. In his meetings with the Dalai Lama, Mao insists incorporation is for Tibet's own good. In 1951, a ruthless Chinese army overruns the country. However, the Dalai Lama refuses to sacrifice the Buddhist principle of nonviolence throughout his country's long resistance.

He is urged by his monks to flee Tibet before he may be killed, but he stays with his people until he has no other options. The movie ends with gripping scenes of the Dalai Lama escaping to India, where his life in exile begins. More than five decades later, he still hasn't returned to his homeland.
