Chanting crowdThousands of monks and nuns are reciting around the Bodhi-tree where the historical Buddha reached enlightenment. We are at the annual World Peace Ceremony in Bodhgaya, India. The pilgrims arrive after harsh journeys from Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.
During the Festival Buddhist books are distributed, in 2004 an amount of twohundredthousand. They are published and printed in Berkeley, California. From California the books are shipped to India and from there transported by trucks to Bodhgaya.
The distribution of the books is an initiative of Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche. The life-task-project of this lama is to provide the lost Tibetan Buddhist texts to the monasteries in the surroundings of the Himalaya. His three daughters preside over the World Peace Ceremony.
