Jon Kabat-Zinn is founder and director of the Stress Reduction Clinic in Massachusetts. Kabat-Zinn’s systematic approach to developing new forms of control and wisdom is based on our inherent talent for relaxation, awareness and living consciously in the here and now to gain insight.
In 1996, Johan Tinge encountered the work of Kabat-Zinn: ‘I knew right away that this was the approach I’d been looking for all those years. Now I’m founder of the Institute for Mindfulness in the Netherlands where I organize the Mindfulness Trainer Course, among other things.’
At Radboud University Nijmegen, Professor of Psychiatry, Anne Speckens has recently undertaken a study of the effects of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.
‘As a child I’d close my eyes in the Haunted House, until I dared to open them and it turned out not to be so bad. That’s how I now look at my own fears,’ one of the participants explains.
