Goenka remains entirely true to the teachings of the historical Buddha, which survived to this day in Birma. Despite this, he does not call his organisations Buddhist, because it is his belief that it was not the Buddha’s intention to found a religion. In keeping with the spirit of the Bhuddha, it is his intention to remain strictly non-sectarian in his approach so that people who have ill-founded preconceptions about Buddhism, will be able to experience the benefit of the techniques that he teaches. His pupils have developed many remarkable social initiatives all over the world, which incorporate the Vipassana meditation techniques.
