Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche is the spiritual leader of the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. Educated in the west his teachings are very accessible to a western audience and he teaches all over the world. He is a practitioner of arching, a poet and a marathon runner.

His father, Tibetan born Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founded the Shambhala tradition, which he based on the warrior

tradition of the Shambhala Kingdom and the teachings of the Buddha. Sakyong Mipham explains that courage occupies a central place in this tradition - a warrior’s courage to develope compassion. This requires daily meditation. He compares the mind to a muscle: it has to be trained all the time.

Shambhala offers meditation trainings worldwide that can be applied in everyday life. Two people give insight into their own experience.

A doctor training at a hospital explains how Shambhala-inspired meditation gives her the space to approach her patients in a ‘fearless and gentle’ manner. A patient’s fear of death is shared by her applying her training in compassion.

Sakyong Mipham emphasizes that compassion really is the goal that can be achieved through meditation – compassion is the crowning jewel of the mind.

16-4-2007  Koraisha compassie en shambhala traditie - Quote goedemorgen, Ik vond het programma compassie" erg interessant en vooral het verhaal van de co-assistente. Is het mogelijk om met haar in contact te komen ? ik (vrouw) ben zelf gelovig, spiritueel ingesteld en wil graag met haar praten over levenslessen, meditatie etc etc.misschien kunnen jullie haar benaderen en dat zij met mij contact opneemt per email ? Ik vond haar nl.overkomen als een goed en sterk mens die mededogen toont voor zijn/haar medemens en dat bewonder ik in mensen, vandaar (zo zit ik zelf ook inelkaar, en het is altijd interessant om met soortgelijken te praten)
