THE COLOUR OF INCENSE
being a Vietnamese Buddhist in Europe

Over 500 Vietnamese immigrants from all over Europe gather yearly, this time for the 14th time, in London: children, youngsters, the elderly and monks alike. The aim is to aid and encourage the integration of Vietnamese immigrants into Western European culture by developing a Western form of Buddhism in accordance with the Vietnamese tradition. In addition, traditional Dharma teachings are studied.

Those attending study all day, from 6am in the morning till 10pm at night -- even the lunches are accompanied by ceremonies.

Youngsters explain how the teachings of the Buddha inspire them to find the strength and the courage to deal with ever-increasing levels of discrimination, and how they as refugees relate to their native country and can contribute to the environment they live in now.
